A librarian at a municipal library. English was a weak subject as a student, and for a long time English books were things to be looked at. Then came the assignment to set up an English extensive-reading corner in the library, and reading — begun to check the books that would go on the shelf — became the turning point. The feel of finishing a first book has never been forgotten, and even now the title and total word count of each finished book are written down in a notebook. The motto is “no hurrying, no stopping, all the way to the end.” On days off, a paperback-sized English book goes along to a coffee shop — a calm, courteous guide.
